DOST-PNRI lines up activities for Atomic Energy Week 2025

DOST-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) is set to hold its annual Atomic Energy Week from December 9 to 12 amid continuing efforts to broaden public engagement with nuclear science in the Philippines. The event, held at the agency’s Quezon City compound, will feature activities aimed at students, researchers, and general audiences.

The celebration includes a three-day open house, where visitors will be able to view PNRI’s technical exhibits and interact with scientists responsible for the institute’s research programs. The displays will cover a wide range of nuclear applications, from medical and environmental uses to safety, security, and energy-related topics.

One of the week’s major events is the Philippine Nuclear Research and Development Conference, scheduled for December 10 and 11. The conference will bring together participants from the scientific and academic community to discuss ongoing work in nuclear research and policy. Selected presentations will be considered for a special journal issue subject to peer review.

PNRI is also holding a mobile app competition for senior high school and college students. The contest focuses on tools designed to address misconceptions about nuclear science, with the winning team earning the chance to represent the Philippines in an international competition next year.

To close the week, the institute will hold its recognition program for Civil Service awardees and employees. Atomic Energy Week is mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 1211 issued in 1973, which directed PNRI to lead activities promoting public awareness of peaceful nuclear applications.
