The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has reiterated its commitment to fostering sustainable development among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the second leg of its “Mainstreaming Energy Efficiency in MSMEs” Investment Roadshow, held in Cagayan de Oro City.
The event, organized by the DTI Regional Operations Group (ROG) and the Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development (BSMED), focused primarily on promoting energy-efficient practices as both a strategic means to bolster competitiveness and a way to improve resilience among businesses in Mindanao.
DTI Undersecretary Blesila A. Lantayona highlighted the importance of energy efficiency not only as a cost-reduction strategy, but as a pathway for innovation and long-term viability. “We are not only promoting energy efficiency for cost savings; we are empowering our MSMEs to be more competitive, sustainable, and future-ready,” Lantayona said in a statement posted on DTI’s website.
The roadshow featured several successful case studies and technical demonstrations that illustrated the practical benefits of adopting energy-efficient technologies. Among the highlighted examples was Camp Backpackers Port Barton, a small resort that reduced its electricity usage by 45,692 kWh and saved PHP 500,800 annually by switching to solar-powered systems and energy efficient appliances.
Private sector experts from SOLX Technologies Inc., Magis Innovations Inc., and TS-i Energy Solutions also joined the forum to showcase a wide array of technologies such as LED lighting, optimized HVAC systems, and retrofitted equipment. Their presentations emphasized how accessible upgrades can give businesses significant reductions in both energy consumption and operating costs.
The DTI also pointed out once more its support mechanisms for MSMEs. This includes energy audits, financial and technical assistance, and access to innovations that drive productivity and sustainability. The program is part of a broader national strategy aligned with the Marcos administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas” governance agenda, which prioritizes inclusive and resilient economic growth.
The Mindanao leg of the roadshow aims to ensure that enterprises in the region are not left behind in the transition toward a more energy-conscious and resource-efficient future.
