Lopez group’s Energy Development Corp. (EDC) and the Gaisano Capital have commissioned the largest solar rooftop system in the province of Iloilo and is set to install more solar systems in other malls across Panay Island.
The 1.03-megawatt solar rooftop system installed can supply around 50% of the daytime load of Gaisano Capital’s mall in La Paz District, Iloilo City that will generate savings in power costs and reduce the emission of 770 metric tons of CO2 yearly.
The project is EDC’s initial venture in the solar rooftop industry.
“We are one with EDC in promoting the use of and enhancing our operations with cleaner energy technologies. This is our own contribution to reducing the negative impacts of climate change,” Gaisano Capital vice president for operations Edmund Gaisano, Jr. said.
Five other malls in Panay Island are expected to be installed with the solar rooftop system.
“The solar rooftop systems have come down in price and will continue to do so. We will harness solar so we can provide cleaner and more affordable energy options to our customers. Both the customers and environment win so it’s a business we are committed to,” EDC president and COO Richard Tantoco said.
EDC’s clean energy portfolio includes 1, 169 MW of geothermal, 150 MW of the wind, 132 MW of hydropower and 7 MW of solar energy.
