ENGIE names new Energy Infrastructure Head for SEA

Global low-carbon energy leader ENGIE has named Jacques Boonen as its new Managing Director for Local Energy Infrastructures in Southeast Asia, a region where the company is expanding its clean energy footprint, including projects in the Philippines.

The appointment, effective August 1, 2025, signals ENGIE’s intent to deepen its role in Southeast Asia’s energy transition. Boonen replaces Pierre Cheyron, who has moved to a Group-level role as Vice President for Marketing & Sales, Local Energy Infrastructures.

Boonen has worked with ENGIE since 2008 in France, Belgium, and North America, serving as Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer for ENGIE France Renewables and CEO of ENGIE Impact, the Group’s sustainability advisory arm.

“I am honoured to lead ENGIE at such a pivotal point in Southeast Asia’s energy transition,” Boonen said. “Pierre Cheyron and Thomas Baudlot have laid a strong foundation for our operations, and I look forward to deepening our presence in the region. Southeast Asia is a strategic growth market for ENGIE, and I am excited to scale our Local Energy Infrastructure business through practical solutions like district cooling, onsite renewables, onsite utilities, and energy efficiency.”

Varun Gujral, Country Manager for Southeast Asia and CEO of Supply & Energy Management APAC, said the leadership change will reinforce ENGIE’s long-term push to deliver integrated, low-carbon solutions. “I’m pleased to welcome Jacques and look forward to working closely together as we expand ENGIE’s reach across Southeast Asia,” he said.

In the Philippines, ENGIE has already partnered with major firms to implement clean energy projects: rooftop solar and cooling systems at Festival Mall, low-carbon industrial solutions for Filinvest, energy efficiency upgrades at Shangri-La The Fort, and sustainability initiatives at Clark International Airport and Apo Cement Corporation.

With more than 2,000 employees in Southeast Asia, ENGIE is positioning itself to scale practical, low-carbon infrastructure solutions across industries, real estate, and data centres.
