The Northern Palawan Power Generation Corporation (NPPGC), a subsidiary of Emerging Power, Inc. (EPI), is awaiting the approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to attach its 120.6-megawatt (MW) Cawag Solar Power project in Subic Freeport Zone, Zambales, to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) Subic Hanjin Substation.
In a Manila Bulletin report, the ERC said that NPPGC would fully fund the Php 1.188-billion transmission facility, ensuring it will not affect the transmission rates charged to the public.
Additionally, the Commission considered the facility to be financially and technically feasible, as it will exclusively serve NPPGC’s operations and will not cater to end-users.
The project involves the development, ownership, operation, and maintenance of point-to-point transmission facilities to link the solar plant to the grid.
The ERC has directed NPPGC to fulfill procedural requirements, including a Notice of Virtual Hearing and consumer notification, before completing the application process.
Earlier, the NPPGC received a renewable energy service contract from the Department of Energy (DOE), granting the company authority to explore and develop solar energy as a registered RE developer.
The NGCP also conducted a system impact study (SIS) to guarantee the project’s stability, reliability, and compatibility with grid operations.
