Emerging Power, Inc. (EPI), a subsidiary of Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC), expects to close 2025 with a total installed capacity of around 300 megawatts peak (MWp), driven by the upcoming energization of the Phase 1 of its San Isidro, Leyte solar project.
The project, developed under Greenlight Renewables Holdings, Inc. (GRHI)—EPI’s joint venture with Shell Overseas Investments B.V.—is scheduled for energization in the fourth quarter of this year.
NAC President and CEO Martin Antonio G. Zamora, in a statement said the milestone marks a major step in the company’s renewable expansion plans.
“In our renewable energy business, we are approaching the launch of the Leyte Phase 1 solar project, which will raise EPI’s total installed capacity to approximately 300 MWp by year-end,” he said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.
EPI, through its listed parent firm NAC, also disclosed that Phase 1 of the Botolan solar project in Zambales (45 MWp) is set to start construction in the last quarter of 2025, with commercial operations targeted in the second half of 2026. The Botolan solar project is also under GRHI.
Meanwhile, a 145 MWp Subic-Cawag solar project, under a wholly owned EPI subsidiary, is scheduled for energization in late 2026.
Pre-development work has also started for a 50 MWp Nazareno solar project in Bataan, with construction expected to begin before the end of 2025, NAC reported.
EPI’s subsidiary, Jobin SQM, Inc. (JSI), meanwhile, recorded an 8% increase in generation to 127,030 megawatt-hours (MWh) year-on-year. Despite the growth in output, EBITDA fell 12% to PHP 460 million due to a lower weighted average tariff from the sharp decline in Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) prices.
The company said the impact was partially cushioned as most of JSI’s sales are covered by long-term Power Supply Agreements (PSAs).
