The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) conducted a technical inspection of the 54-megawatt (MW) San Lorenzo Wind Power Plant in Guimaras on Monday, October 27, as part of its continuing effort to strengthen regulatory oversight and promote renewable energy development in the country.

ERC Chairperson and CEO Atty. Francis Saturnino C. Juan and Commissioner Paris G. Real led the inspection, joined by ERC technical personnel. The visit was hosted by ACEN Corporation and its subsidiary, Guimaras Wind Corporation (GWC), which owns and operates the facility.

The San Lorenzo Wind Power Plant, the first wind farm in the Visayas, has a total installed capacity of 54 MW and produces more than 87 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity annually. This output is enough to power approximately 29,000 households and helps avoid around 55,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

During the visit, GWC presented updates on plant operations, maintenance, and safety systems, and discussed compliance with regulatory and environmental standards. The ERC also engaged ACEN and GWC in discussions on best practices in renewable energy management and sustainability initiatives.

According to the ERC, its field inspections and technical assessments aim to ensure transparency, reliability, and consumer protection in the power industry while supporting the country’s shift toward cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.

What impact do you think increased ERC field inspections have on renewable energy project performance and investor confidence?
