The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) has a new family member founded by a Filipino mechanical engineering graduate.
EVAP welcomed Clima Mobility, founded by Adonis Lagangan, a mechanical engineer graduate of the Mapua Institute of Technology.
Motivated by his passion for automobiles and the environment, Langanan once dreamt of creating his own electrical vehicle. While working as a commissioning engineer in coal-fired power plants abroad, he would hone his skills in forming and 3D CADD designing.
“I then worked to complete the design of the prototype of my dream electric car. I fervently hoped that one day, I will become a full-time EV manufacturer,” he told Manila Times.
Clima Mobility’s flagship product is the Genius EV, a 10 kilowatt powered, 72 volt brushless DC motor electric mini – sedan. The five-seat capacity e-vehicle has a maximum speed of 75 kph with a 60 to 70-kilometer range after a four five-hour charging.
The Mapua graduate is looking to offer the Genius EV to local government units (LGUs), government agencies, corporate clients, including taxi operators and individuals.
“It can be used as a small electric taxi for Metro Manila, as a patrol car for the barangays, as a service vehicle for LGUs, government agencies, and big companies and as a delivery car for logistics companies with the rear portion modified as an enclosed van,” he said.
But before distribution, Lagangan said that they need bigger manufacturing prospects. “Manufacturing prospects,” Lagangan said. “Right now, we manufacture on a build-to-order basis. We need green financing to help finance our operations and an inventory of electric cars. Thus, we are now in search for grants and funding to build up our plant capacity,” he stressed.
Clima Mobility is now on the right track towards the second level 2 of EVAP, which is the mass production of the Genius EV, said EVAP president Rommel Juan.
“At this stage, a little help from [the] government would be much needed because now, we have a mini sedan that we could proudly claim as Gawang Pinoy!”
