Operations of Unit 20 of the 1, 000-megawatt (MW) Sta. Rita combined cycle power plant of First Gen Corp. have been put on hold until October as its damaged transformer is replaced.
“To expedite the restoration of Unit 20, the damaged main transformer will be replaced with the spare main transformer which is stored on site. Unit 20 is expected to return to operation by the first week of October 2016,” the company said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.
The specified unit was under maintenance from July 23 to August 26 for maintenance activities on the transformer. However, a fault occurred in the main transformer of the 250-MW Unit 20.
Unit 20 was among the nine power plants that were down from July 25 to 29, when the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines raised yellow and red alerts over the Luzon grid.
