First Gen Corporation subsidiary FGEN LNG Corporation has obtained a Permit to Operate and Maintain (POM) from the Department of Energy (DOE) for its Interim Offshore LNG Terminal in Batangas City.
“We are thankful to Secretary Raphael P. M. Lotilla and the Downstream Natural Gas Review and Evaluation Committee for the support and guidance provided throughout this process, and for issuing the POM. Last year, the Project has enabled introduction of LNG to supplement Malampaya to ensure energy security especially during the past summer,” said First Gen president Giles B. Puno.
The FGEN LNG terminal project, featuring a multi-purpose jetty and an onshore gas receiving facility, represents the initial phase of a significant energy infrastructure development.
Recognized as an “Energy Project of National Significance” by the Energy Investment Coordination Council under Executive Order No. 30, the project is authorized to operate for its own use through the POM, with a 25-year validity period.
Furthermore, the initiative is poised to play a crucial role in enabling the growth of natural gas-based power generation, offering a flexible energy solution that will complement the expanding share of intermittent renewable energy sources in the national grid.
