Geely Motor Philippines has introduced two new energy vehicles to the local market: the all-electric Geely EX5 and the hybrid Okavango Elite. These launches showcase the brand’s renewed focus on sustainable mobility solutions, which align with national efforts to expand the adoption of energy-efficient vehicles.
The launch event, held in Quezon City, also marked the appointment of new CEO Sylva Yu, who reaffirmed the company’s commitment to bringing practical, clean, and adaptable vehicles to Filipino motorists.
“Whether it’s the quiet torque of the EX5 or the hybrid practicality of the Okavango Elite, we’re delivering performance, comfort, and adaptability that Filipino motorists will immediately feel,” Yu said.
The Geely EX5 is the brand’s first fully electric SUV in the Philippines, built on its Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA). It is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) paired with a 60.22 kWh battery, delivering a WLTP-rated range of 430 kilometers on a full charge.
A key feature of the EX5 is its 11-in-1 intelligent electric drive system, which includes IGBT (Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor) optimization-a technology that improves the vehicle’s overall energy conversion efficiency. Charging is also highly efficient: the system can power up the battery from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes, making it viable for both daily commuting and longer trips.
The EX5 qualifies as a fully electric vehicle under the Philippine EV Incentives Act, thus making it eligible for green plates and associated incentives. It also incorporates a cell-to-body (CTB) battery design, which improves structural rigidity and enhances energy density for long-term reliability.
Meanwhile, the updated Okavango Elite introduces a 48V mild hybrid system to one of Geely’s most popular seven-seaters. The new variant pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged internal combustion engine with an electric motor system, producing a combined 193 PS and 300 Nm of torque.
Designed for everyday practicality, the hybrid setup features three drive modes, Eco, Normal, and Sport respectively, to optimize fuel efficiency and responsiveness. The Electric Motor Synergy (EMS) system reduces engine load during acceleration and allows energy recovery during braking, lowering both fuel consumption and carbon emissions in urban settings.
This configuration offers an accessible entry point into electrified mobility for consumers who want improved fuel efficiency without depending on EV charging infrastructure.
The introduction of the EX5 and Okavango Elite comes at a time when the Philippine government is pushing for greater adoption of energy-efficient and low-emission transport systems. Both vehicles offer scalable solutions to reduce fuel dependency, improve air quality, and cut overall energy consumption in the transport sector.
The EX5 is priced at PHP 1.79 million while the Okavango Elite, at PHP 1.36 million. Both models support more energy-efficient transport options as the country transitions toward cleaner mobility.
With plans to introduce three more models this year, Geely joins other automakers in expanding the portfolio of cleaner vehicle options in the Philippine market.
