German Companies Explore Renewable Energy Integration Opportunities in the Philippines

German firms are eyeing increased collaboration with the Philippines, specifically in renewable energy development. This comes right after a high-level conference held on June 24, 2025, at Shangri-La Makati. Organized by the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) in partnership with the Renewable Energy Association of the Philippines (REAP), the event showcased German technologies in smart grids, storage systems, and clean energy generation.

The conference was part of a week-long affair under the “Energy Solutions – Made in Germany” program, which is supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. It brought together around 70 participants, including German SMEs, Philippine industry leaders, and public sector representatives.

In her keynote address, Department of Energy Undersecretary Rowena Guevara emphasized the important role of smart grid technologies and storage systems in achieving the country’s energy transition goals. She highlighted the dual benefits of sustainable infrastructure and economic development through workforce retention.

“Our drive for energy transition will not only build sustainable energy infrastructure for future generations, but also reap the economic benefits of retaining a highly skilled workforce in the country,” Guevara said.

GPCCI Vice President Tristan Arwen G. Loveres noted that the event enabled 68 business-to-business (B2B) meetings to foster direct cooperation between Philippine and German energy stakeholders.

Participating German firms included: Bae Batterien, Blueberry Energy, Fitchtner GmbH, H2 Core Systems, Reprocon GmbH, SkySails Power, and SMA Altenso GmbH.

“This mission reflects Germany’s commitment to building lasting partnerships in sectors with real impact,” said GPCCI President Marie Antoniette Mariano, highlighting the potential for long-term cooperation.

The GPCCI continues to serve as the official representative of German businesses in the country. They support market entry, expansion, and policy dialogue through its network of over 300 member companies.
