AboitizPower has begun constructing its 19-megawatt (MW) Bineng Combination Hydro in La Trinidad, Benguet.
Through its unit, Hedcor, the company broke ground last December 5. The project is expected to increase the current capacity of the Bineng 1, 2 and 2B to 19-MW.
The hydro project is expected to be completed in 2019 and will generate 62 million kilowatt hours annually.
“Once this is commissioned, we will be delivering power to the grid, from the grid it will now be distributed to the different electric utilities or cooperatives,” Hedcor senior vice president Chris Faelnar said.
The three Bineng hydropower plants which is one of the first hydropower plants in the province will be decommissioned and dismantled next year to make one big plant, a report from the SunStar said.
“Along with the construction of the plant is the benefit to the community. We will live up to be your neighbor of choice. We commit to help through our corporate social responsibility focused on three core areas: education, enterprise development, and the environment,” Chris Sangster, AboitizPower Executive Director said.
Currently, Hedcor now has 22 hydropower plants located in the provinces of Benguet, Ilocos Sur, Mt. Province, and Davao. It is commissioning 69-MW Manolo Fortich project in Bukidnon, which will increase its total capacity of 185 MW upon completion.
