Honda Parts Manufacturing Corp. (HPMC) has energized the first phase of its 1.35-megawatt solar rooftop system at its Biñan, Laguna facility, marking one of the latest large-scale industrial solar deployments in the country as manufacturers accelerate shifts to renewable energy.
The installation forms part of a multi-phase renewable energy program that HPMC is implementing with solar developer and operator GreenHeat Corp. Under a 10-year solar service agreement, the Honda unit will source a portion of its electricity directly from the rooftop system.
The project is designed to generate about 1.55 million kilowatt hours of clean energy in its first year—equivalent to roughly 30% of the plant’s current power demand. HPMC expects the system to offset 773,726 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions annually and 19.3 million kilograms over 25 years.
“At Honda, we believe that manufacturing excellence goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility,” HPMC president Seiki Futagoishi said during the launch. He added, “Our partnership with GreenHeat demonstrates our commitment to renewable energy and supports Honda’s global target of achieving carbon neutrality. By generating clean energy right at our own facility, we are taking concrete steps to build a more sustainable future for our community and the Philippines.”
GreenHeat director Glenn Tong said the collaboration illustrates how companies can align operational efficiency and environmental responsibility. “Our goal is to support forward-thinking companies like Honda in transitioning smoothly to renewable energy solutions that not only cut costs but also contribute meaningfully to a sustainable future,” Tong said.
Tong highlighted that the system uses more than 2,000 latest-generation solar modules and 11 grid-tie inverters, supported by remote monitoring and multiple layers of electrical protection.
GreenHeat, founded in 2010, has developed more than 35 megawatts-peak of rooftop solar across commercial and industrial sites and currently maintains 68 solar installations nationwide.
