Levanta taps CEEC for 166-MWp solar, 80-MWh storage project

Levanta Renewables has awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to China Energy Engineering Group (CEEC) for a 166-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar farm paired with an 80-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Visayas, marking a new utility-scale hybrid project in the Philippines’ pipeline.

The project, named the Barotac Solar Power and BESS facility, will combine solar photovoltaic generation with storage to improve grid stability and reliability in the region, according to a company statement dated April 9.

The EPC contract covers the full build-out of the integrated facility, a configuration increasingly pursued in the Philippines to manage intermittency and firm up renewable output, particularly in island grids such as the Visayas.

“This award marks an important step in advancing our greenfield portfolio in the Philippines, reflecting Levanta’s end-to-end capabilities across development, financing, construction, and operations,” said Pramod Singh, CEO of Levanta Renewables.”

“By combining Levanta’s development expertise with CEEC’s EPC capabilities, we are well positioned to deliver the project to high standards of execution, reliability, and safety,” he added.

The development adds to the country’s growing pipeline of solar-plus-storage assets aimed at supporting the government’s target of increasing the renewable energy share in the power mix to 35% by 2030.

Levanta, backed by global infrastructure investor Actis, is building a gigawatt-scale portfolio across Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, while CEEC subsidiaries will undertake the engineering and construction works.

No project timeline or investment value was disclosed.
