Homeowners groups in Lipa, supported by the city government, have launched a zero waste and waste-to-energy initiative aimed at improving garbage collection and cutting carbon emissions, Manila Standard reports.

The program is led by the Lipa City Federation of Homeowners Association Inc. in partnership with the Lipa City LGU. Mayor Eric Africa, Vice Mayor Mikee Morada, Councilor Merlo Silva, and Councilor Atty. Galy Angeles joined the launch together with federation president Virgo Bad Ang, vice president for marketing Leovi Mendoza, and Alterna Verde Corporation vice president for business development Gary Llanes.

Llanes said the project follows strict environmental standards, highlighting the use of anaerobic digestion technology from Thailand. “This process doesn’t burn waste or use high temperatures. Instead, we capture methane gas from the waste to power our generators, significantly reducing carbon emissions and providing a cleaner solution for the community,” he said.

The partnership ensures that garbage collection will be handled by professional collectors, with the LGU and homeowners association working together to keep services consistent and reliable.

City officials and federation leaders said the effort is designed not only to address waste disposal but also to set the groundwork for a sustainable, low-carbon future for Lipa residents.
