Manila Water and MSpectrum have officially activated 3.8 megawatts-peak (MWp) of solar capacity across ten key facilities, marking a milestone in their ongoing partnership to integrate renewable energy into utility operations.
The solar deployment covers critical pumping stations and treatment plants, including Kingsville PS, Siruna PS, East La Mesa PS, Makati PS, Lucban PS, Calawis TP, East Bay TP, Taguig North STP, Marikina North STP, and Ilugin STP–providing power exclusively for Manila Water’s operational needs. The installation is Grid-Tied and aims to help the company mitigate rising electricity costs while reducing its carbon footprint.
“This partnership can be a showcase not just in the Philippines but in the region as well. I want Manila Water to be a beacon in the Asia Pacific for renewable energy in a water utility company,” Manila Water President and CEO Jocot de Dios said.
“Being renewable is not easy. It requires commitment, investment in resources, execution excellence, and continuous monitoring—it’s not just install-and-forget,” MSpectrum Chief Operating Officer Patrick Panlilio said. “At Manila Water, we recognize resilience and believe you are well-positioned to uphold this commitment. We are proud to be part of the legacy you are building, and you can be assured that we will provide support at every stage to help meet your requirements.”
With this phase, Manila Water’s total solar capacity reaches 6.3 MWp, expected to offset about 5% of the company’s annual energy demand. The partnership reflects a strategic approach to operational sustainability and demonstrates how collaboration can accelerate renewable energy adoption in the Philippine utility sector.
Could strategic partnerships like Manila Water and MSpectrum’s become the blueprint for renewable energy deployment in other Philippine utilities?
