Marcos, DL Group discuss 320-MW nuclear project during APEC Summit

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with executives of South Korean conglomerate DL Group on the sidelines of the 2025 APEC Summit in Busan, South Korea, to discuss the company’s ongoing and planned energy ventures in the Philippines.

DL Group’s subsidiary, DL E&C, is partnering with Meralco to pursue small modular reactor (SMR) projects aimed at expanding the country’s clean energy portfolio. According to the Presidential Communications Office, a feasibility study for a 320-megawatt SMR project was launched in August 2025, thus marking another step toward the potential adoption of nuclear technology for power generation.

SMRs are compact nuclear power plants designed to produce safe, stable, and low-carbon energy while requiring less land and shorter construction timelines than traditional facilities.

DL Group, established in 1939 and headquartered in Seoul, has core businesses in construction, petrochemicals, and energy. They continue to explore investment opportunities that align with the Philippines’ energy transition goals.
