Meralco Academy, TransCo seal deal to boost energy workforce skills

The Meralco Power Academy (MPA) and the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) have entered into a partnership aimed at strengthening technical training and professional development in the Philippine power sector.

Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie L. Aperocho, who also serves as MPA president, said the collaboration raises the bar for both organizations’ commitment to talent development.

“This partnership blends TransCo’s unique national mission with MPA’s specialized role in training and development—a synergy that can make a tangible impact on energy reliability, resiliency, and human capital development,” Aperocho said.

Executives of both institutions formalized the collaboration through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in Pasig City. The agreement covers joint projects that include continuing professional development (CPD) courses, specialized capability-building programs, and initiatives to cultivate a new generation of energy professionals.

TransCo President Fortunato C. Leynes welcomed the partnership, calling it a significant step in raising industry competencies. He also acknowledged the work of TransCo’s Human Resource Management and Development Division, led by Vice President Maria Theresa L. Laranang, in advancing employee skills.

The two organizations said the collaboration will also serve as a structured platform for knowledge-sharing on power distribution and other emerging areas in the energy landscape.

MPA, established as Meralco’s energy education arm in 2013, has positioned itself as a training hub for professionals and aspiring engineers. Its programs cover sustainable energy, energy efficiency, engineering, safety, and other technical skills vital to the power industry.
