The Manila Electric Company (Meralco), in partnership with the Manila local government unit (LGU), has intensified its wire-clearing operations in Binondo as part of a grander campaign to reduce fire hazards and improve public safety in the city.
The clearing efforts along Yuchengco Street last July 9 are part of Meralco’s ongoing Anti-Urban Blight Campaign and align with Executive Order No. 5, recently issued by the Manila LGU, which targets overloaded poles and other safety concerns linked to urban congestion.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso stressed the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in addressing urban safety. He also reminded all users of Meralco poles to ensure they have the proper permits to use the utility’s infrastructure.
Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ensuring the integrity of its power distribution facilities.
“We will continue to conduct more operations like these with the help of the LGUs to maintain the integrity of our distribution facilities and ensure continuous electricity service for our customers,” Zaldarriaga said.
The initiative showcases Meralco and the Manila LGU’s shared goal of promoting safer communities while maintaining reliable electricity service.
