Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has given assurance to its customers of uninterrupted and dependable electricity service during the Holy Week, adding that standby personnel are available to address any emergency concerns.
“We join the nation in observing a solemn and safe Holy Week. As a 24/7 service provider, we assure our customers that our crews are fully prepared to respond to any power-related concerns that may arise,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications.
During Holy Week and the ongoing hot season, Meralco encourages consumers to prioritize electrical safety and energy efficiency with practical tips to prevent accidents and optimize electricity usage.
- Unplug unused appliances, especially when leaving home for an extended period
- Avoid “octopus connections,” or plugging multiple extension cords into a single outlet, as this may lead to overheating and potential fire hazards
- Refrain from running electrical cords under rugs or carpets, which could damage wire insulation due to foot traffic
- Keep cords organized and stored away properly
- Ensure electrical equipment is kept away from water sources such as showers, sinks, and bathtubs
The company also highlights the usefulness of the Appliance Calculator feature available in the My Meralco app, an online tool that helps customers track their appliances’ energy consumption, enabling them to adjust usage for better efficiency.
Although Meralco Business Centers will be closed from April 17 (Maundy Thursday) to April 20 (Easter Sunday), customer support will remain accessible through digital platforms. Customers may reach Meralco via the My Meralco app, official social media channels on Facebook (www.facebook.com/meralco) and Twitter (@meralco), through SMS at 0920-9716211 and 0917-5516211, or by calling the Meralco Hotline at 16211 and 8631-1111.
Regular operations of Meralco Business Centers will resume on April 21 (Monday).
