Meralco conducts wire-clearing operations ahead of Traslacion 2026

Manila Electric Company (Meralco) conducted wire-clearing operations in Quiapo, Manila ahead of the Traslacion on January 9, 2026, as preparations ramp up for the religious event expected to draw millions of devotees.

Meralco said its personnel cleared sagging cables and inspected utility poles and power lines along key sections of the Traslacion route, including Arlegui Street, to help ensure a safe and orderly procession of the image of Jesus Nazareno.

The wire-clearing activities were carried out in coordination with the Manila local government unit, as well as telecommunications and cable service providers, as part of broader safety measures ahead of the annual event.

“Meralco worked closely with the Manila local government unit and telco and cable service providers to conduct these operations in line with our efforts to put utmost importance to public safety,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga.

Meralco noted that wire-clearing is a regular activity across its franchise area, undertaken not only during major events but also as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce public safety risks while maintaining reliable and stable electricity service.

As large public gatherings continue to place pressure on urban infrastructure, how can utilities and local governments further strengthen coordination to ensure public safety during major religious events?
