Residents and businesses in Sta. Rosa, Laguna can now expect better power quality as Manila Electric Company (Meralco) switches on the new Mesaland Substation, designed to support the area’s rapid growth.
The new Mesaland 115-kilovolt (kV) – 34.5 kV Substation, located in Hacienda Sta. Elena, will improve power reliability in Sta. Rosa and Cabuyao in Laguna, as well as Silang and Tagaytay City in Cavite. This development aligns with Meralco’s goal of supporting economic growth in these fast-expanding urban areas.
To ensure continuous power supply, the Mesaland Substation is equipped with two 115 kV sub-transmission feeds. These feeds are integrated through the existing Sta. Rosa 2 – Light Industry and Science Park 115-kV line, providing N-1 contingency. The project also includes the installation of an 83-megavolt-ampere (MVA) power transformer, capable of supporting four new 34.5 kV distribution feeders.
The improved power infrastructure will benefit residential communities, schools, hospitals, and commercial establishments. Among the residential areas set to benefit are Treveia, The Sonoma Residences, Abrio, Santierra, Lumira, and Venare. Educational institutions such as Adventist University of the Philippines, and healthcare facilities like The Medical City South Luzon, will also experience enhanced power quality.
Meralco’s new substation is expected to meet the power requirements of several businesses and commercial centers, including Landers Superstore, S&R, Ayala Malls Solenad, Robinsons Nuvali, The Landmark Supermarket, Seda Hotel, Concentrix, Asurion, AllHome Sta. Rosa, Vista Mall Sta. Rosa, Paseo de Sta. Rosa, and Promenade Sta. Rosa.
Meralco First Vice President and Head of Networks Froilan J. Savet highlighted the project’s importance: “The newly energized Mesaland Substation underscores Meralco’s unwavering commitment to quality and continuous service improvement, meeting the growing power demands of commercial, industrial, and residential customers in Sta. Rosa and nearby areas. As part of its dedication to supporting economic growth, Meralco will continue to invest in the expansion and enhancement of its distribution network, ensuring a reliable and efficient power supply for the communities it serves.”
The development of the Mesaland Substation forms part of Meralco’s ongoing effort to upgrade its distribution system, promoting a stable and reliable electricity supply to its customers.
