The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has officially inaugurated its new Sampaloc Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation, a critical infrastructure project aimed at addressing the increasing electricity demand in the City of Manila.
The 115 kilovolt (kV) – 34.5 kV GIS substation, with a capacity of 83 megavolt amperes (MVA), is expected to improve the power supply for essential institutions in the area, including the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Dominican School Manila, and the University of Santo Tomas.
Meralco said the new facility is part of its continuing efforts to deliver “a safe, stable, and dependable service” to its eight million customers.
