The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will install on Wednesday a remote control switch for its main substation in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA T3) to prevent another power outage.
In a statement, The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said Meralco will make the installation from 12:01 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. today. Operations will be done with the NAIA T3 Engineering.
“As a result, NAIA T3 will be running on temporary power which shall supply all critical facilities of the Terminal to ensure continuous flight operations,” MIAA said.
In April, NAIA 3 had a five-hour power outage from 8:45 p.m. to 2 a.m, causing 82 domestic flights to be cancelled and delayed four international flights. One of the 10 generators was found in poor condition and was declared the reason behind the brownout.
Meralco is also looking at installing remote control switches in the NAIA terminals 1 and 2 but said it would have to be approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission.
