Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has been named “Company of the Year” at the 21st Philippine Quill Awards after bagging 36 recognitions for its communication programs across customer service, sustainability, digitalization, public safety, and corporate social responsibility.
The utility secured 10 Awards of Excellence and 26 Awards of Merit, reaffirming its leadership not only in the power sector but also in the field of business communication.
“This honor affirms the vital role of strategic communication in advancing Meralco’s mission to keep the lights on. Being named Company of the Year inspires us to continue raising the bar in using clear, timely, and relevant communication as a driver of positive change that empowers the communities we serve, and builds trust with our stakeholders,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga.
This is the fifth time Meralco has received the top recognition, making it the only company to achieve the distinction multiple times.
The award-winning programs covered a wide range of initiatives, from communicating monthly rate adjustments and sustainability drives on renewable energy and urban farming, to advancing digital channels such as the Meralco Newsroom and “Manong Joe.” Other efforts included public safety campaigns, livelihood support programs, and electrification for underserved households.
The Philippine Quill Awards, organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines, is the country’s premier award-giving body for excellence in business communication.
