The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has powered the Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation in Banawe to supply power to commercial and business establishments in Quezon City.
Meralco first vice president and head of networks Ronnie Aperocho said the 115kV/34.5kV substation facility will provide power to the areas of Balintawak, Diliman and San Francisco Del Monte.
“This is part of Meralco’s ‘smart grid journey’ to make its infrastructure more responsive to customer needs. It is also a testament to the common goal of ERC and Meralco to continuously improve electric service to the customers through the use of innovative technology,” Meralco senior vice president and head of customer retail services and corporate communications Alfredo Panlilio said.
The power distributor assured that the GIS substation has the latest technologies capable of addressing problems during operational contingencies and less maintenance features.
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approved the project under the third Regulatory Period of the Performance-Based Regulation (PBR). The GIS substation in Banawe will provide services to the Capitol Medical Center, Puregold Supermarket, Orion Wire Cable, Inc. and Container Corporation of the Philippines.
