Meralco Power Academy, MSU-IIT Forge Alliance to Shape Future Energy Workforce

Meralco Power Academy (MPA) has joined forces with Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) through a formalized partnership aimed at developing a future-ready workforce for the power and energy sector.

Key officials from both institutions signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at Meralco’s headquarters in Pasig City, signaling a deeper collaboration on specialized training, immersive learning, and research development initiatives.

As part of the agreement, MPA and MSU-IIT will conduct joint training programs, host specialized learning events, and offer internship and immersion opportunities that provide students with hands-on industry experience. The collaboration also includes co-developing curricula for advanced degree programs in renewable energy and nuclear science.

“In the past, higher education institutions and industry are moving towards different directions. The solution towards that is strengthening the collaboration of industry and academia—not only in the development of talent and workforce but even in the field of research and development,” said MSU-IIT Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan.

The partnership will further expand to cover professional lectures, research conferences, and laboratory collaborations—all aimed at cultivating a pipeline of technically proficient energy professionals.

“This collaboration is more than just an agreement—it reflects a shared vision of building a future-ready energy workforce. Together with MSU-IIT, we strive to equip aspiring engineers and scientists with the skills and knowledge to drive the Philippines toward a more sustainable energy landscape,” said Meralco Executive Vice President, COO, and MPA President Ronnie L. Aperocho, himself an alumnus of MSU.

MPA, Meralco’s energy education arm, has been instrumental in training talent to meet the evolving demands of the Philippine energy sector. This partnership marks another step in its broader mission to support the country’s energy transition and inclusive growth through knowledge-sharing and innovation.
