The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) provided 3, 600 more households in poor communities with electricity services, in line with its agreement with the Department of Energy (DOE) to aid in the agency’s goal to achieve 100 percent electrification in the country.
3, 667 households in the DOE-identified priority areas were given power. These include Barangays Baseco,, Gaya-gaya, Happyland, Isla Puting Bato and Parola in Manila, as well as other households in Bulacan, DOE said.
The program provides regular and pre-paid electricity service in to the marginalized and informal settlers communities, through the National Housing Authority’s (NHA) Relocatees and Informal Settlers Electrification (RAISE) program.
The distribution utility said it will deepen its commitment to provide electricity in the government-identified priority areas.
