Meralco Powers Up ASEANA Substation to Support Growth in Southern Metro Manila

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has created a new smart substation equipped with advanced network automation technology in Parañaque City to help meet the ever-growing electricity demand in ASEANA City as well as surrounding commercial hubs in southern Metro Manila.

Known as the ASEANA 115 kV–34.5 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation, the newly commissioned facility is part of Meralco’s strategy to support infrastructure development and provide reliable power to rapidly expanding economic zones.

The substation includes an 83-megavolt-ampere power transformer, advanced GIS switchgears, a 14.4 MVAr capacitor bank, and a 1.2-ohm neutral reactor. The project also has a dedicated building, which is equipped with modern protection and control systems.

According to Meralco, the project is expected to reduce system losses by approximately 373,000 kilowatt-hours, which means energy savings for customers. It also alleviates the load on existing PAGCOR-1 transformer banks, thus improving operational flexibility during contingencies.

The ASEANA Substation is designed to serve the power needs of several commercial and mixed-use developments, including ASEANA 3, Ayala Malls Manila Bay, Seda Manila Bay, Sequoia Hotel, Platinum Tower, Sequoia Hotel Manila Bay, Seda Manila Bay, and Sinocan Corporate  Center.

“This project plays a key role in improving system reliability and serving the dynamic power requirements of our customers,” said Meralco First Vice President and Head of Networks Froilan J. Savet. “We continue to deliver on our commitment to invest in infrastructure that supports expanding economic hubs.”

Meralco described the substation as part of its grander initiative to build a smarter, more resilient, and future-ready electricity network.
