Meralco pushes rapid power restoration as Opong batters Southern Luzon

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has mobilized its crews round-the-clock to restore power in storm-hit areas of Southern Luzon after Severe Tropical Storm Opong (international name: Bualoi) disrupted electricity service.

As of 12NN on September 26, around 8,900 customers in Quezon, Laguna, and Cavite remained without power. Meralco said its teams are working continuously to bring electricity back to affected households and businesses.

“We continue to be on full alert while our people on the ground work non-stop to restore electricity service in areas affected by power interruptions due to the storm,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga.

The company also issued urgent reminders for customers in flooded areas to strictly observe electrical safety. These include switching off the main power breaker, unplugging appliances, avoiding wet outlets, and ensuring all equipment is thoroughly dry before use. Meralco emphasized that only licensed electricians should inspect and reconnect flood-exposed wiring systems.
