Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said it is on full operational readiness to ensure stable and uninterrupted electricity service across its franchise area during the Holy Week, a period typically marked by reduced commercial load but heightened residential demand.
The Manuel V. Pangilinan-led utility said response teams have been placed on 24/7 standby to address any potential power disruptions as Filipinos observe the religious holiday, with many traveling or staying home for extended periods.
“We join the nation in observing a solemn and safe Holy Week. As a 24/7 service provider, we assure our customers that our crews are fully prepared to respond to any power-related concerns that may arise,” said Joe Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications.
The company also rolled out precautionary measures for customers, particularly those leaving their homes unattended. These include unplugging appliances before departure, avoiding overloading outlets, organizing electrical wiring to prevent hazards, and keeping devices away from water sources.
Meralco said its business centers will be closed from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday, with operations set to resume on April 6. However, customer support channels—including hotlines, mobile app, and social media platforms—will remain accessible throughout the holiday period.
Do you expect any power reliability challenges this Holy Week, or are utilities sufficiently prepared for seasonal demand shifts?
