The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has restored electricity service to thousands of customers impacted by heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon.
As of 2:00 PM on July 22, Meralco reported that the number of customers affected by power interruptions had dropped to approximately 90,000, down from over 167,000 earlier that morning. Most of the remaining outages are concentrated in Metro Manila, Cavite, and Bulacan, with additional areas affected in Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, and Quezon.
According to Meralco, around 86% of the affected customers are located in flooded areas. This prompted the company to take extra safety precautions during restoration efforts.
“We continue to actively monitor the weather situation in light of persisting rains in parts of our franchise area,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga. “We ask our customers for patience and understanding as we have to prioritize safety during the conduct of power restoration activities. Rest assured that our crews are working non-stop to restore power service as soon as it is safe to do so.”
Meralco reminded the public to observe electrical safety, especially in flooded conditions. Customers were advised to stay alert and report outages and other concerns via Meralco’s official social media pages, hotline (16211), or mobile numbers (0920-9716211 and 0917-5516211).
