Meralco Strengthens Ties With KEPCO to Advance Energy Innovation in the Philippines

Meralco has deepened its collaboration with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to accelerate the adoption of new energy technologies in the Philippines. The partnership will focus on renewable energy, smart grids, nuclear power, energy storage systems, and electric vehicles, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to energy innovation and sustainability.

The MOU outlines technical cooperation, exchange programs, and joint research initiatives aimed at enhancing grid efficiency and reliability. Meralco and KEPCO will collaborate on advanced metering infrastructure, microgrids, smart substations, and distribution automation, ensuring a more resilient and modernized power system. The agreement also includes technical training and employee exchange programs, fostering deeper cooperation in power infrastructure development.

Meralco Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan emphasized the significance of the collaboration, noting that the partnership reflects a commitment to knowledge-sharing and technological advancement. He stated that this MOU marks an important step for both companies, enshrining their dedication to strengthening capabilities and working toward a smarter, more resilient energy future.

“We’re looking forward to work together with KEPCO. This collaboration allows us to refine our strategies, integrate new technologies, and find better ways to power the future. Beyond the business objectives, we want to forge and strengthen relationships that will drive meaningful progress,” he said.

The latest agreement builds on a previous MOU signed in November 2024, which focused on advancing smart metering technologies. Meralco continues to explore innovative energy solutions to meet the growing demands of its over eight million customers, ensuring 24/7 power reliability and supporting the Philippines’ long-term energy security goals.
