Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has upgraded its Camarin Substation to strengthen electricity reliability for customers in North Caloocan and San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, the power distributor announced.
The upgrade includes the installation of an 83-megavolt amperes (MVA) power transformer bank, 34.5 kilovolt (kV) Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), four 115 kV power circuit breakers, and eight 115 kV disconnect switches.
According to Meralco, the enhancement addresses the growing electricity demand of key areas, including Maynilad Water Services–La Mesa Water, SM Deparo, SM San Jose del Monte, Regan Industrial Sales Inc., and Converge J3 Caloocan DC.
“As part of its commitment to delivering high-quality service, Meralco continues to invest heavily in upgrading its electricity distribution system,” the company said.
The development signals continued investment in grid resilience amid rising power consumption in the northern Metro Manila corridor and Bulacan, a critical industrial and residential growth area.
Energy sector stakeholders and watchers are invited to discuss the implications of Meralco’s substation upgrade on local power reliability and future distribution planning.
