Meralco Wins 11 Stevie Awards for Sustainability, Innovation, and Inclusion

Manila Electric Company (Meralco) received international recognition for its programs in clean energy, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards held in Seoul, South Korea. The power distributor took home a total of 11 awards, particularly of note three Gold Stevies, as it continues to push for a more sustainable and equitable energy future.

One of the most honored initiatives was MTerra Solar, which was recognized with two Gold Stevies in the Sustainability & Climate Protection Services and Product Design & Development categories, as well as a Bronze Stevie for Sustainable Business Models. Praised as the world’s largest integrated solar and battery storage facility, MTerra Solar is capable of supplying clean energy to about 2.4 million households while offsetting approximately 4.3 million tons of carbon emissions annually. This scale of the impact is roughly equivalent to removing more than 3 million gasoline-powered vehicles from the road every year.

According to the Stevie Awards, MTerra Solar is described as a “groundbreaking achievement” that not only addresses the Philippines’ energy needs but also advances Meralco’s vision of a coal-free future. The facility exemplifies the company’s commitment to renewable energy as a pillar of its long-term sustainability strategy.

Meralco’s leadership was also recognized on an individual level. Raymond B. Ravelo, Meralco’s First Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, was awarded the Gold Stevie for Climate Hero of the Year. His efforts in steering the company’s sustainability transformation and promoting strong governance to support the transition to clean energy were cited as pivotal contributions to Meralco’s ongoing evolution.

“This global recognition affirms our belief that doing what is right for our planet, people, and communities is also good for business,” Ravelo said. “Indeed, these honors fuel our passion to build a more sustainable and equitable energy future for all.”

In addition to its clean energy milestones, Meralco’s Race to Zero Waste Program earned a Silver Stevie. The program achieved a 95% waste diversion rate, which far exceeded the industry average of 20 to 40%, through systemic reuse and recycling practices embedded across all Meralco facilities, especially with active engagement from employees, partners, and communities.

Other initiatives also gained recognition through multiple Bronze Stevies. Among these were Meralco’s overarching sustainability agenda “Powering the Good Life,” its long-term energy transition program “BulacanSol: Road to a Coal-Free Future by 2050,” and its #Mbrace Diversity and Inclusion Program. The latter was commended for promoting inclusive workplace practices, especially those empowering women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and persons with disabilities.

Meralco’s communication and engagement efforts were likewise honored as well. Its 2023 annual and sustainability report “Pangako” and community-focused report “Pangarap” were both awarded under the Innovation in Annual Reports category for their transparent narratives and compelling storytelling. The “Meralco Liwanag Park” event, which highlighted the company’s community partnerships, also received a Bronze Stevie under Internal Corporate Events.

The Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards, now in its 12th edition, received over 1,000 nominations from organizations across 29 countries. Winners were selected based on the average scores of more than 120 global executives serving as judges.

Stevie Awards President Maggie Miller praised the quality of this year’s submissions, noting that “the innovation and perseverance demonstrated in the nominations was inspiring.”
