Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN), through its subsidiary Global Business Power Corporation (MThermal), has signed a Deed of Donation (DOD) worth over PHP15 million in partnership with the One Meralco Foundation (OMF). The goal of which is to support social development programs in pivotal host communities in Cebu and Panay.
The ceremonial signing, held on July 23, formalized the joint commitment of MGEN and OMF to fund a range of community-based projects. These include the Adopt-A-Health Center initiative, educational scholarships across all levels, training sessions for barangay health workers, outreach programs, and infrastructure development such as the La Paz Plaza Football Lighting Project in Iloilo.
“At MGEN’s core is nation-building. Efforts like this are a reminder that the energy we generate must also translate into opportunities for students, families, and communities,” said MGEN President and CEO Manny V. Rubio.
MThermal President and CEO Jaime T. Azurin highlighted the impact of the partnership, saying it goes beyond financial assistance. “Through our collaboration with OMF, we are not merely providing financial support- we are fostering growth and opportunity within our communities in Cebu and Panay,” he said.
OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao reaffirmed these sentiments, emphasizing how the initiative empowers individuals and strengthens the ties between companies and communities. “This partnership is more than just funding. It’s about the powerful stories of students getting a leg up in life through scholarships, families having access to better health care, and communities feeling a stronger connection with companies like MGEN,” he said.
The joint project aligns with One Meralco’s broader Sustainability Agenda. An agenda which aims to ensure that the benefits of progress reach even the most underserved sectors of society.
“This shows our shared commitment to progress and positive impact in the communities we have reached. This inspires us all the more to make positive change across the nation,” said Meralco Executive Vice President and COO Ronnie L. Aperocho.
