Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) have formalized their partnership in the 63.3-megawatt peak (MWp) Calatagan Solar Farm in Batangas through a Deed of Accession and Amendment signed on September 11.

The agreement transfers the stake of Solar Philippines Power Project Holdings, Inc. to MGEN subsidiary SP New Energy Corporation (SPNEC), making it KEPCO’s joint shareholder in the facility. The Calatagan Solar Farm is one of the largest solar projects in Batangas.

The companies said the move strengthens their strategic collaboration in renewable energy and supports the Philippines’ transition to clean power. In February, MGEN and KEPCO signed a memorandum of understanding covering potential cooperation in nuclear, renewable energy, smart grids, microgrids, energy storage systems, electric vehicles, and advanced metering infrastructure.

“This agreement is a testament to the trust and cooperation that KEPCO and MGEN have built over the years,” KEPCO Philippines Holdings, Inc. President & CEO Jeon Yongsu said. “Together, we are creating a stronger foundation to accelerate renewable energy development in the Philippines and set a benchmark for strategic energy partnerships across Asia.”

MGEN and SPNEC President & CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio said the partnership highlights the company’s commitment to clean energy and national sustainability goals. “By working hand in hand, we aim to not only ensure the continued success of the Calatagan Solar Farm but also unlock new opportunities for innovation and growth in the Philippine energy sector,” he added.

MGEN and KEPCO said they intend to explore additional projects in wind and energy storage systems to further diversify the country’s energy portfolio.
