MGEN launches DEIB policy, joins PFIP to promote workplace inclusion

Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) has formally launched its Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Policy while joining the Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride (PFIP) as its 109th member—marking a milestone in building a safe and inclusive work environment in the Philippine energy sector.

The ceremonial signing, held in Pasig City on June 30, also capped MGEN’s Pride Month celebrations. It featured a dialogue among employees on SOGIE 101 and “The Business of Inclusion,” led by PFIP Corporate Secretary and Trustee Ivan Garong and PFIP Training Consultant Jessley Bañas.

“At MGEN, this policy is not just on paper. It reflects the workplace we are building — where everyone feels seen, respected, and safe. Today is just the beginning of the many actions we’ll take together to build a more inclusive, equitable, and empowered workplace for all,” said MGEN President and CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio.

MGEN’s DEIB policy outlines measures to embed inclusion into its operations through training sessions, regular audits, and grievance mechanisms for accountability and improvement. It also introduced an industry-first employment benefit within the One Meralco Group: extending health and medical coverage to same-sex and common-law partners.

“These initiatives are not just policies – that’s a statement of respect. It’s about affirming the dignity of every individual and every kind of family. This is what diversity, equity, inclusion, and belongingness looks like when it’s real – and this is just the beginning,” said MGEN Human Resources Head Dang Lopez.

Women make up 55% of MGEN’s corporate workforce, and its operations span 12 provinces—highlighting the company’s commitment to workplace diversity.

MGEN currently operates 4,953 MW of net sellable capacity across traditional and renewable energy, including a stake in Singapore’s PacificLight Power and a recent 40.2% investment in a Batangas LNG facility.
