Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN), in partnership with the Meralco Power Academy (MPA), has opened the first MGEN Center for Innovation (MCI) in the Visayas. For its opening, MCI hosted the Young Engineers and Scientists Summit (YESS) on October 8, 2025, which brought together students from Angelicum School, Leganes National High School, and Philippine Science High School–Iloilo for workshops and collaborative activities.

Designed to offer learning and training programs for students and professionals in the power sector, the facility is located within the Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) site in Iloilo City. It is the first MPA facility outside the Meralco franchise area, transforming a former internal training site into a public‑facing hub for technical education and research.
“Formerly known as the GBP Institute for Energy, this facility has been reimagined and revitalized to meet the evolving needs of our industry and our communities. Now, MCI will serve a wider audience and aim to become a leading hub for energy education, research and innovation — the first of many Centers for Innovation we plan to establish across our sites in the Philippines,” said MGEN President and CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio.
