Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) has partnered with IBM to adopt the IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS). This strategic move is aimed at modernizing the company’s asset management systems and supporting its long-term energy and decarbonization goals.
Announced on June 26, MGEN said the implementation of Maximo will enhance real-time monitoring, maintenance, and lifecycle planning for its diverse power generation assets, (solar, thermal, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.)
“With this partnership, we are harnessing the power of digital transformation to future-proof our operations, accelerate decarbonization, and build an energy system that works better for the people and the planet,” said Emmanuel V. Rubio, President and CEO of MGEN.
MGEN’s operations span 12 provinces in the Philippines and include high-profile initiatives such as the MTerra Solar Project, which is positioned as the world’s largest integrated solar and battery energy storage facility, currently under development in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan. The company also holds interests in Singapore’s PacificLight Power and a major LNG facility in Batangas.
The Maximo platform will allow MGEN to streamline critical functions such as work order creation, inventory tracking, procurement integration, and asset lifecycle management. According to MGEN Vice President and Head of IT Kenny Ryan E. Martinez, the system will provide unified visibility across the company’s energy portfolio, supporting smarter decision-making and greater operational resilience.
Maximo’s AI-powered tools will also improve preventive maintenance and cost tracking, thus working seamlessly with MGEN’s financial planning and procurement systems. The platform is expected to reduce operational downtime and maximize the efficiency of MGEN’s nearly 5,000 MW of net sellable capacity.
IBM Philippines Country Software Leader Christine Llanto-Ravelo said the partnership reflects IBM’s continued commitment to enabling digital transformation in the energy sector. “IBM Maximo Application Suite is strategically positioned to support MGEN in its digital transformation journey, enabling the company to manage, monitor, and maintain its diverse portfolio of assets that are critical in delivering the promise of reliable and sustainable energy for our countrymen,” she said.
