Mobi Solar Philippines, Inc. has signed its first Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with a major retail mall operator, XRC Mall Developer, Inc. (XRC), the company behind the nationwide XentroMall brand. The agreement will bring 2.5 megawatts-peak (MWp) of solar energy capacity across several of XRC’s community malls and public markets, marking a breakthrough for Mobi Solar in the fast-growing commercial and industrial (C&I) solar space.
Founded in 2023, Mobi Solar is emerging as a leading player in the Philippine renewable energy market by offering zero-CAPEX solar solutions through flexible PPAs. The XRC deal demonstrates the company’s commitment to accelerating clean energy adoption through turnkey systems designed to lower electricity costs and carbon footprints, without requiring clients to shoulder the initial investment.
“We’re proud to partner with XRC Mall Developer as our first client in the retail sector,” Mobi Solar said in a statement. “This project shows how accessible and scalable clean energy can be when the financing model removes barriers. Our PPA allows businesses to switch to solar without spending upfront, and that’s a game changer.”
The 2.5 MWp system will be installed across multiple XentroMall properties and is expected to generate more than 3, 361,000 kilowatt-hours per year. This output will translate to approximately PHP 33.61 million in annual savings for XRC and offset over 2,352.7 metric tons of CO₂ emissions.
The agreement covers installation, operations, and maintenance of the solar systems for the entire duration of the contract. Mobi Solar’s grid-tied setup will allow the malls to use solar energy during peak daylight hours, drawing from the grid only when necessary.
“Our PPA model is designed for long-term reliability and maximum savings,” the company said. “Clients benefit from cheaper electricity and improved sustainability without the burden of equipment ownership or maintenance.”
A Power Purchase Agreement allows businesses to tap into solar power with no capital expenditure. Mobi Solar funds and installs the system, and the customer pays only for the electricity produced, typically 5 to 20 percent lower than local utility rates. This model has helped Mobi Solar build a robust B2B portfolio in just under two years.
In addition to XRC Mall Developer, Mobi Solar has secured projects with several other industrial and commercial clients, including:
With an estimated 52.9 MW of total installed and pipeline capacity, Mobi Solar is positioning itself as a key enabler of the Philippines’ shift to decentralized clean energy systems.
For XRC Mall Developer, the partnership reflects a broader vision to modernize operations and reduce environmental impact.
“As a company rooted in community service, we want to lead in sustainability,” XRC Mall Developer, on the other hand, said in a statement. “Partnering with Mobi Solar allows us to meet our energy needs more responsibly while unlocking major cost savings.”
“This is just the beginning. We see clean energy as a core part of our growth strategy moving forward,” the retail mall developer added.
