The Mariveles Power Generation Corp. (MPGC) is seeking the nod of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to own and operate a dedicated point-to-point transmission facility in order to connect its 1,200 megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant to the Luzon Grid.
The proposed transmission project will be constructed through a direct connection to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) Alas-asin 500 kilovolt substation.
In a report by the Manila Standard, the transmission project is expected to cost around Php1.868 billion and will cross six barangays in Mariveles, Bataan.
MPGC said that the construction of the transmission facility is crucial for the power plant to conduct its testing and commission come the fourth quarter of 2022 and ultimately proceed with the commercial operations thereafter
The project includes an 11-kilometer transmission line to interconnect the 500-Kv gas-insulated switchgear of the power plant and the NGCP substation.
The coal plant being constructed by MPGC will employ circulating fluidized bed technology. The first four units, with a capacity of 150 MW each, are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The testing and commissioning of the first unit is slated in the fourth quarter and is expected to be synchronized to the Luzon Grid by December.
