MR. D.I.Y. Philippines has become the first home improvement retailer to make the switch to 100% renewable energy under the government’s Retail Aggregation Program (RAP), setting a new sustainability benchmark for the retail industry. The company aggregated 28 branches in the Greater Manila Area, totaling 746.51 kilowatts of electricity demand, and partnered with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) to power them entirely with renewable sources.
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) formally recognized MR. D.I.Y. as a “RAP Champion” during a ceremonial unveiling of its “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge on April 11. The badge, issued by ACEN RES, marks businesses that have fully transitioned to renewable power under the program, as announced on the company website.
RAP, a mechanism launched by the ERC, allows multiple electricity consumers to pool their demand and negotiate directly with licensed retail electricity suppliers. It gives businesses both cost-efficiency and the ability to choose greener sources of power. MR.D.I.Y.’s early adoption of RAP exemplifies the benefits the program aims to deliver.
Speaking at the event, ERC Chairperson Atty. Monalisa Dimalanta emphasized the program’s broader potential for transformation in the energy market. “RAP is for any business with the courage to lead and the vision to do things differently. RAP is not for the faint-hearted. RAP is for the bold—and the future, as they say, belongs to the bold,” she stated.
Dimalanta encouraged MR. D.I.Y. and others in the retail industry to go beyond mere participation, as published on ERC’s LinkedIn post.
MR.D.I.Y. first adopted renewable energy in 2024 by powering its Dasmariñas warehouse through the Green Energy Option Program, also with ACEN. Its latest move to enroll in RAP expands that effort to retail locations across Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon, Bulacan, and Cavite
.CEO Roselle Marisol Andaya framed the decision as a matter of corporate responsibility. “At MR.D.I.Y., we believe that sustainability is not just an option—it’s a responsibility. Our commitment to 100% renewable energy through ACEN RES is a bold step toward a greener future, ensuring that every store we power contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable Philippines,” she said.
.The transition also aligns with MR.D.I.Y.’s broader ESG goals.
ACEN RES President and CEO Eric Francia described the national shift to renewables as a “not-so-quiet revolution,” and underscored ACEN’s role in enabling this transition. “We’re proud to partner with MR. DIY in their shift to renewable energy. By providing 100% renewable power, we’re helping MR.DIY cut emissions and meet its sustainability targets,” he said..
The Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) also weighed in, with its President and CEO Atty. Richard Nethercott noting that MR. D.I.Y.’s participation “demonstrates the growing sophistication of the Philippine electricity market,” while contributing to “a more dynamic and efficient energy sector.”.
