MPower has enrolled four additional Mr. Freeze Tube Ice Inc. (Mr. Freeze) facilities under the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP), furthering the ice manufacturer’s footprint in the competitive retail electricity market.
The four new ice plants in the Greater Manila Area will receive cost-efficient and reliable supply from MPower, the retail electricity supplier of Manila Electric Company (Meralco). The move builds on the companies’ already existing partnership.
Earlier in November, Mr. Freeze consolidated the electricity demand of 27 of its Metro Manila ice plants, enabling the company to utilize the benefits of the Competitive Retail Electricity Market (CREM).
RAPS enables companies to consolidate the electricity demand of multiple facilities to meet the threshold required to participate in CREM. This allows them to choose a retail electricity supplier besides their local distribution utility. This gives them the potential to optimize power costs and create more specific supply arrangements.
“We value having an energy partner that not only supports our electricity needs but also empowers our business to grow,” said Mr. Freeze Founder and Chief Executive Officer Gerry Santos.
“MPower is grateful for the continued trust that Mr. Freeze places in us. This inspires us to consistently go beyond expectations as we enhance the customer experience for all our partners,” said Meralco Senior Vice President and MPower Head Redel M. Domingo.
MPower serves contestable customers within Meralco’s franchise area and holds more than 25% share of the competitive retail electricity market in that territory.
The company said it is also increasing the share of renewable energy in its supply portfolio in response to growing customer demand for cleaner power options.
As more multi-site businesses consolidate their electricity demand under RAP, will retail aggregation become a more common strategy for managing power costs in the commercial sector?
