Mr. Freeze Tube Ice Inc., the country’s leading ice tube manufacturer, has partnered with MPower, the retail electricity supply arm of Manila Electric Company (Meralco), to supply power to several of its ice manufacturing facilities across Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Bulacan through the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).
The collaboration transitions multiple Mr. Freeze ice plants into the contestable market, allowing the company to consolidate its electricity accounts and benefit from bulk power purchasing through MPower.
RAP, a government initiative led by the Energy Regulatory commission and supported by the Department of Energy, enables smaller electricity users with several facilities within the same franchise area to aggregate their consumption and enjoy more competitive rates under the government’s retail competition framework.
Mr. Freeze, which began its partnership with Meralco in 2005 when its first ice plant was energized, said the shift to retail aggregation supports its operational efficiency and energy cost management goals.
“Our business has always been built on strong relationships, and we’re happy to continue growing with Meralco and MPower. We look forward to sustainable growth and continued success as we power our Mr. Freeze ice plants, and we’re excited for this new journey with MPower by our side,” said Mr. Freeze President and Chief Operating Officer Philip Gerald Santos.
For Meralco, the partnership reflects the growing participation of small and medium enterprises in programs that provide greater flexibility and access to competitive power supply.
“This partnership is not just about business, it’s about the shared goals we believe in: sustainability, responsible energy use, and putting the customer first. MPower is more than just a supplier, we’re a partner committed to growing with you and supporting what matters most,” said Meralco First Vice President and Head of MPower Redel M. Domingo.
MPower currently serves top corporations and contestable customers within the Meralco franchise area, holding over 30% of the competitive retail electricity market. The company is also expanding the renewable energy share in its supply portfolio in response to rising customer demand for sustainable energy options.
