NEA, BENECO energize remote Benguet village under Sitio Electrification Program

The National Electrification Administration (NEA), in partnership with the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO), has energized Barangay Ansagan in Tuba, Benguet, bringing electricity to 87 previously unserved households under the government’s Sitio Electrification Program (SEP).

NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda led the switch-on ceremony on October 30, joined by Tuba Mayor Clarita Sal-ongan, BENECO General Manager Melchor Licoben, and Board President George Dumawing Jr. Local officials and cooperative executives also attended the event, which marked another milestone in the government’s push toward universal rural electrification.

In his message, Almeda said providing electricity to far-flung areas remains one of the most rewarding parts of NEA’s mission. “This is our way of making people feel that the national government cares for all of you—to provide you with the much-needed electricity for the students; for your livelihood,” he told residents of the mountain village, led by Barangay Captain Atos Adonis.

Ansagan, home to over 2,000 residents, sits at the southern tip of Tuba and is surrounded by forests, rolling hills, and natural water sources that sustain local farming—the community’s main source of livelihood.

“We have been exerting all our efforts, all our best, to achieve 100 percent electrification before the term of our dear President Bongbong Marcos ends,” Almeda added.

The newly energized area covers 44 sitios and 375 household connections, further expanding BENECO’s network and supporting NEA’s goal to power all rural communities across the country.
