The National Electrification Administration (NEA) reported that 24 electric cooperatives (ECs) availed a total of PHP1.54 billion in loans during the first half of 2025.
According to the NEA’s Accounts Management and Guarantee Department (AMGD), the loans were sourced from the agency’s PHP1.795-billion fund earmarked for lending programs to support ECs, which serve as the government’s partners in rural electrification.
Of the total loans disbursed as of June 30, 2025, 20 electric cooperatives borrowed a combined PHP893.65 million for capital expenditures, while five others secured PHP650 million in working capital loans.
The AMGD noted an uptick in loan releases in the second quarter, with PHP967 million processed. This is much higher comparatively to the PHP577 million in the first quarter.
NEA’s lending program is part of its wider mandate to support and strengthen the operations of ECs across the country, especially in underserved and remote areas.
