Negros Power reports lower power rates from infrastructure investments

Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) reported a drop in residential electricity rates this June, citing the impact of its infrastructure investments on system efficiency and energy loss reduction.

In a statement posted by the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday, the distribution utility said residential customers will see a decrease of PHP 0.55 per kilowatt hour (kWh) in their June billing—from PH P11.69 last month to PH P11.14 this month.

For commercial customers, June rates are PHP 11.18 per kWh on low voltage and PHP 10.09 per kWh on high voltage.

“The feeder loss rate improved to 8.03% from 8.28% last month, indicating that infrastructure investments enhance operational efficiency and reduce unnecessary power losses, contributing to overall cost reductions,” the firm said.

Negros Power attributed the rate drop to “strategic and efficient energy management,” with current system upgrades delivering measurable results.

“This rate adjustment is part of our ongoing commitment to ease the financial strain on our consumers,” the company said.

Since securing a 25-year franchise in July 2023 to serve Bacolod, Silay, Talisay, and Bago cities, and the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Power has undertaken major upgrades. These include the completed rehabilitation of the Alijis Substation and the 30-kilometer Bacolod-Silay 69kV subtransmission line, alongside aggressive vegetation clearing.

The company also rolled out energy-efficient transformers across its franchise area and expanded system loss reduction efforts.
