NexGen secures 1.7 GW in new DOE-approved wind service contracts

NexGen Energy Corp. announced that its wind development subsidiary Airstream Renewables Corp. has secured three new onshore Wind Energy Service Contracts from the Department of Energy, representing a combined projected capacity of 1.7 gigawatts. The DOE issued the contracts and corresponding certificates for wind projects in Pangasinan, Samar, and Nueva Ecija.

The Pangasinan Onshore Wind Project has a planned capacity of 600 megawatts and covers 13,770 hectares. It will be connected through an 8-kilometer 230 kV transmission line to the NGCP Labrador Substation.

The Samar project, also at 600 megawatts, spans 16,929 hectares and will use a 7-kilometer 138 kV line to the Victoria Substation.

In Nueva Ecija, Airstream is developing a 500-megawatt onshore wind project across 9,234 hectares. The site will link to the NGCP Sampaloc Substation via a 15-kilometer 230 kV line.

NexGen Energy President Eric Y. Roxas said the new contracts strengthen the company’s pipeline and represent “around USD 2.5 billion in prospective investment.”

“Securing 1.7 gigawatts of new Wind Energy Service Contracts represents a major step forward in NexGen Energy’s growth strategy and materially strengthens our development pipeline,” Roxas said, adding that the three projects position Airstream as one of the country’s competitive large-scale wind developers.
